]]>Here is some History on the iconic Gold Coast Show–
The Gold Coast Show has a long and proud history dating back to the beginning of the 20th Century.
In 2006 the Gold Coast Show celebrated its Centenary event and a book 100 Shows –History of the Gold Coast Show- by Fiona Staun was also published.
In its early days the Show known originally as The Southport Show was held at Recreation Reserve or what is now known as Woodroffe Park in Southport.
It featured exhibits such as fruits, vegetables and flowers, commodities produced in the area to support the many Brisbane based tourists who regularly travelled to the small seaside village.
The Show continued at this location growing in scope to include live stock exhibits and equestrian event until it outgrew the venue and moved to Owen Park in 1919.
It was to remain at Owen Park for the next 60 years while undergoing several name changes. In 1930 the Show became known as The Southport A & H Show and in 1952 it became the South Coast Show before becoming The Gold Coast Show in 1959.
In 1989 The Gold Coast Show again outgrew its location and moved to facilities at Parklands.
This 47 hectares site was purpose built for the Show Society along with Harness and Greyhound racing facilities.
In fact Parklands Showground was so new that the 1989 Show, which has traditionally been held in late August, had to be postponed until late October.
In 2013 the final Gold Coast Show was be held at Parklands Showgrounds owing to the planned redevelopment of the site for the Athlete’s Village for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
2014 saw the Gold Coast Show move to the Gold Coast Turf Club in Racecourse Drive, Bundall.
Every year the Gold Coast Show hosts popular and traditional Show events featuring extraordinary fireworks displays, Australiana displays, show bags, wood chops, side show alley, visual arts and home crafts displays, stage shows, roving entertainment and a free family circus. Added to this is a free entertainment package changing each year.
After you visit, why not Hire a Boat and see the Gold Coast Show from a unique angle on the Broadwater.
After visiting the Gold Coast Show, Boat Hire is available across the water at Mariners Cove Marina. Come on down and unwind after a hectic day

Father’s Day is a celebration honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 (Saint Joseph’s Day) since the Middle Ages. This celebration was brought by the Spanish and Portuguese to Latin America, where March 19 is often still used for it, though many countries in Europe and the Americas have adopted the U.S. date, which is the third Sunday of June. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March, April and June according to the home nation’s customs. It complements similar celebrations honouring family members, such as Mother’s Day, Siblings Day and Grandparents’ Day.
In its modern form it was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd.
Today Father’s Day is taken very seriously by many families who take it as an opportunity to let fathers know they are loved and valued.
To celebrate Father’s Day 2019 we at Coasting Around are offering 10% OFF any 2 hour cruise for the month of September 2019. Call the office on and quote FATHER2019

]]>Talk like a pirate day started in June 1995 when 2 friends (John Baur and Mark Summers) decided it would be fun to dress up as pirates and talk like them to celebrate the start of the holidays. Originally it was held on June 6th but that was changed to September 19th due to D day.
What can I do – Grab yourself an eye patch, wooden peg leg, plenty of Grog and cutlass (plastic please) and use a terrible accent to say “Argh me hearties” “shiver me timbers” or for the beginners just “Arrrrr!”
The phenomenon that is International pirate day has been celebrated on every continent and even on the international space station.
The patron saint of this holiday is the English actor Robert Newton who played Lon John Silver in Disneys adaption of Treasure Island. Robert was born in Devon UK and became the first pirate to use the phrase “Arrh mateys” in his west country accent.
So to celebrate this magical holiday (in the state of Michigan USA). Coasting Around have teamed up with Fishermans Warf tavern and Rebel FM Gold Coast to offer 5 pirate parties with a 2 hour Pirate Party on a Round Boat beforehand. So grab your best party costume, practice your best pirate talk, grab your mates and head off to Rebel FM to fill in the form. Ash Craig and the crew may call you up so be prepared to answer in your best pirate voice to be in the draw.
